Jazz music was “born”, according to F. Scott Fitzgerald, in the early 1920’s. But jazzes ancestors were seen as early as the 1880’s. Jazz music was developed by the increased popularity of three types of music, ragtime, blues, and marching bands. In cities like, New Orleans, all three types of music were prevalent. When these three different music styles mixed together, jazz music was born. Early composers, such as Louise Armstrong, “Jelly Role” Morton and “Buddy” Bolden, brought jazz to the mainstream. Sales grew further when the radio and phonograph became household necessities. The radio was developed in 1895 by Guglielmo Marconi. In 1906 the first time music and voice were transmitted on the radio was heard. Lee De Forest broadcast the voice of Enrico Caruso, an opera singer, in 1910. Within three years, common networks had been created, such as NBC and CBS. From the 1920’s to the 1950’s families gathering around the radio was as common as families watching TV. But this quickly declined with the invention of the TV in the 1950’s.`
